Mary River Festival ~ Saturday 15 July 2023

We're so happy to playing this year's Mary River Festival. The Mary is a constant in the Moonsets' life. She runs through our back yard, we spend a significant amount of time shilly-shallying about on her sandbanks and lovely pools and rapids and she sometimes leaves us on a tiny island not much bigger than our house.  She's our river; our beautiful Moocooboola.

The Moonsets

2019 EP

Order CDs, Download and Stream from our secure Bandcamp store.

Recorded and mixed on 100% Solar power in an old wooden shack on the far northern edges of QLD's Sunshine Coast.

This offering is a musical journey exploring everything from the little things like fireflies visiting in the night to the more serious theme of the state of our planet to cheeky llamas who steal bananas and the over-arching power of love.

The Moonsets electric harp, bass & drums trio are unashamedly eclectic, exploring the light, the dark and all the colours in-between, both musically and lyrically. We hope you enjoy the ride!

Formerly recording and playing live as The Flumes, we changed our name (for obvious reasons) at the end of 2016. We're glad we did and think The Moonsets suits us very well, but to reassure everyone that we're the same band, we re-recorded "Firefly". It's an old one for us, still in the live set and much loved.

What People Are Saying About The New EP...

"There is nothing cooler than an electric harp! The chilled vibes it creates and the pull and flow of the music are so enchanting". ~ Nkechi Anele Triple J

"Had no idea that an electric harp could have such a great, groovy, psychedelic and luscious rock sound, one that fits perfectly with the rest of the (fantastic) band and with some soulfully mesmerizing female vocals. Every song here shines in its own unique way, like pearls scattered in the sultry underbrush of a thick, tropical forest". Favorite track: Firefly. ~ muschiosauro

"The Moonsets play what you’d imagine in your head having known they’re from the ‘Sunshine Coast’ of Australia. Elements of psychedelic rock hazed with soulful and bluesy vocals and holding a pretty damn catchy island beat throughout. All in all this is a hot find and one I’ll be waiting for the rest of you to join the party soon". ~ Bucky

The Mary River is ours from Conondale to River Heads and we will not have them pour industrial filth into her on any stretch let alone so close to this crucial biosphere".

TROPICAL BLOOM FESTIVAL • 28-30 July 2017

TROPICAL BLOOM FESTIVAL 28-30 July 2017

A CELEBRATION OF DIVERSITY

Situated on bank of the spectacular Hedlow creek, 20 kms west of Yeppoon and overlooking stunning wetlands that are home to an abundance of bird species...Tropical Bloom is a celebration of art, culture and community. These three aspects shape the foundation of the festival. The art comes in more visual and aural forms than you can imagine. The culture we construct is a blend of indigenous, tribal, traditional and new age values and ideals. Community is the glue that bonds it all together. Caring for ourselves, each other and the environment is the central credence for creating and sustaining the vibe that inspires us to keep on dancing.

NOOSA FESTIVAL OF WATER • Sunday 25 June

NOOSA has long known the best way to protect the overall environment is to safeguard the water quality of the Noosa River and lakes system.

And there have been few better ways to raise public awareness on preserving the natural flows than the Noosa Festival of Water which will be showcased again at Lake Macdonald on Sunday 25th June.

"Today the festival has evolved to become an annual showcase of our region's ecological attributes with a primary aim of improving community awareness of how each of us can play a part protecting and preserving our environment in our day to day lives,” she said. NOOSA NAMASTE • Thursday 27 April

Noosa Namaste - Thursday 27 April

Chef Surinder creates unique contemporary cuisine that draws from eclectic inspirations he derived in India, Europe and Australia.
He uses the ancient 5000 year old Ayurvedic philosophy to prepare his food… low in salt, sugar, slow cooked without any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. He blends in the goodness of locally grown chillies, lettuce, roselle, lime, lemons, coriander, eggplant and other produce… straight from his own and friends’ gardens.

Surinder’s cooking is rustic and full of flavour. His meals are healthy, wholesome, well balanced and full of the tastes inherent in the Punjabi recipes passed down through generations in India.

Now that's why we love it!! Kayt & Steph are bringing the duo back to Noosa Namaste Thursday 27 April.

AUSTRALIAN BODY ART FESTIVAL • Saturday 8 April

The 2017 Australian Body Art Festival is set to take it's new home, Cooroy by storm on the 8 and 9 April!

The Australian Body Art Festival - the nation's premier body art event - is a colourful and creative experience for all ages. Held in Noosa hinterland town of Cooroy, the event is nothing short of extraordinary. For members of the public, it’s an event like nothing ever seen before. Boundaries are pushed as the human canvases are transformed into works of art before the crowd.

And that's why we Love It!!

Come and join The Moonsets for this year's Saturday Soiree. Meet the Artists, mingle with their exquisite canvasses and drink from the cup of creation!!

There will be food. There will be wine.

5pm | in the park | Cooroy

Cafe Le Monde • Sunday 2nd April

Returning to Cafe Le Monde Sunday 2nd April for another beachy arvo session. We get sand in our strings but we love it!! A tasty bar and 2 solid sets from The Moonsets 4-6pm, with the wonderfully soulful Peter Hunt takin it through til 7pm...yum.

“psytrance style jazzy rock”

Thanks very much Jai Bevan for this great shot of us from last year with our biggest fan! We're glad we're The Moonsets now for so many reasons. Somewhere between a memory and a dream The Flumes is now a name on old gig posters and dusty CD racks. Something much loved and tinkered with laid to rest. Moving on and letting go is a theme we return to again and again in song and we feel it's ripe for celebration.

The time of The Flumes has passed. Now is the time of The Moonsets.

Check out Jai's tunes, he's a great young songwriter with lots of soul

MORE!

The Moonsets Arrive

Firstly thankyou to everyone who came to a show, bought a CD, all the venues, festival organisers and bookers for your unswerving support over the years. We wouldn’t be here without you and are looking forward to continuing the journey with you all.

For all you long term The Flumes fans who are wondering why we would do such a thing!? Please understand we haven’t done this lightly. We are deeply attached to our name but the confusion caused by The Flumes, Flume and The Fumes has become annoying to the point of unbearable. In fact it’s got our goat and made a curry but as they say “A change is as good as a holiday” and we’re moving on.

Thank you for bearing with us while we go through this transition and please be assured that it’s a name change only and we’ll still be making the music you’ve come to know and love since 2008. We’re in it for a long time as well as a good time and are treating this as part of the natural evolution of the band.

We’ve been cooking up some new tunes in our Solar Powered studio and looking forward to sharing them with you in the New Year.

Until then…Much Love
Kayt & Steph
